Did you know that as of 2008 the United States spends $666,128,300,000.00 on its military budget annually?

Seriously that is ridiculous! We spend almost 8 times as much as the next country on the list, China.

We also spend more than the next 17 countries military spending COMBINED! Countries like:
China, Great Brittan, France, Russian Federation, Germany, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Italy, India, South Korea, Brazil, Canada, Australia, Spain, Turkey, Israel, and Greece.

I got tired of adding but we also spend 4 TIMES as much as the last 118 countries on that list COMBINED. (152 countries total listed)

I vote we cut military Spending by 10% a year for the next 5 years, This would still be an enormous amount of money, as well as still being more than 4 times as much as China, and still more than the next 5 countries combined.

Come on, enough is enough. Put that money into reducing the debt, healthcare for all, free school through Bachelor level, subsidized through Masters/PhD. Invest in our infrastructure, roads, green power, etc. This could take up the jobs lost by the arms industry cuts.

I love Mozy online back up. It is by far the easiest way to back up your computer files. Carbonite is great also but Mozy offers 2GB of backup space for free! If you end up needing more than that it is less than $60/year. Well worth the peace of mind. I've lost a hard drive before and it isn't fun.

Man Pleads Guilty To DWI In Motorized La-Z-Boy

A Minnesota man has pleaded guilty to driving his motorized La-Z-Boy chair while drunk.

A criminal complaint says 62-year-old Dennis LeRoy Anderson told police he left a bar in the northern Minnesota town of Proctor on his chair after drinking eight or nine beers.

Prosecutors say Anderson's blood alcohol content was 0.29, more than three times the legal limit, when he crashed into a parked vehicle in August 2008. He was not seriously injured.

Police said the chair was powered by a converted lawnmower and had a stereo and cup holders.

Sixth Judicial District Judge Heather Sweetland stayed 180 days of jail time Monday and ordered two years of probation for Anderson. His attorney, David Keegan, did not immediately return a call for comment.

So I have had motorcycles on and off since I was 10. Up until 2007 I hadn't had one since 1999!!!! That is way too long to not have a bike. In '07 I bought a leftover 2006 Suzuki M109R in silver. I liked that bike a lot, I've always been a cruiser or standard bike guy. So now I have 2, but I put one up for sale. I've made tons of mods to this bike and I really like it. These are some of the coolest helmets I've ever seen! I see an Akuma V2 Stealth Helmet in my future. Hopefully with their photochromatic shield or better yet T.O.D. (tint on demand). Are film cameras a thing of the past? Nikon is but the latest company, in a growing list, to stop or severely curtail production of consumer film cameras. Nikon will now only have 2 film cameras. I noticed that most of these were already available free on the internet, but what google has done is to bring them all together in one place and made it easier to keep them all up to date. Also of note it isn’t an all or nothing proposition. You can choose which items you want and which you don’t.

You also might have noticed that there isn’t any Spreadsheet or Word Processor software as part of the deal. No fear, it is on its way. I see a huge fight on the horizon, as big as Microsoft is, they are also a huge target and have made more than a few…enemies along the way. Things may be changing.

Q. I would like to purchase a digital picture frame that can fit into the following scenario: My folks have a cable modem and a wireless router. I want to buy them a digital picture frame so I can upload images without talking my folks through the process. I have found frames with wireless capability. But I have not found a way to upload via the Internet.
A. Digital picture frames are amazing. They allow you to instantly change the photo displayed. The same frame can show a different photo each day of the week. Even better, some digital picture frames run slide shows.
Digital frames are becoming more common. You can find them online from several companies, including Pacific Digital, TAO Electronics, and Vialta. You can also find them in some electronics stores.
Most frames have built-in memory card readers. That makes it easy to take a card from a camera and simply plug it in. Other frames can connect to your computer to get photos from the hard drive. I have one that uses a wireless connection.
But your particular situation requires even more convenience. The only truly automatic frame I know of and tried myself is the Digital Photo Receiver from CEIVA.
For your parents, the setup includes plugging in the power and a phone cord. The rest is on your end.
From the CEIVA Web site, you create an account for the frame to which you upload photos. The frame periodically checks the site and downloads newly added photos.
CEIVA charges $10 per month or $100 per year for its service. The frame is priced at $130.
The company announced new products to be rolled out this year recently at the Consumer Electronics show. Depending on your situation, you may want to wait to purchase until they become available. These included:
-- CEIVA Set-Top Receiver – It turns any TV flat panel or projection display into a CEIVA, allowing users to share up to 120 pictures per connection. The Set-Top Receiver connects to your pictures through dial-up, broadband or wireless.
-- CEIVA Portrait Digital Photo Receiver -- For people craving a larger, dedicated picture display, a 15" Portrait-sized CEIVA Digital Photo Receiver has the ability to receive and display up to 100 digital photos every day. These models are available for wall mounting in the home or office, and feature new wireless connectivity as well as a broadband and dial-up options. It’s expected to sell between $500 and $600.

This may end up being the final leap in Internal Combustion Engine efficiency. HCCI could be responsible for an increase in fuel efficiency on the scale of 20+ % using current fuel types. This would bring ICE efficiency on the level with today’s Hybrids. Not bad! A few hurdles remain however, like getting the engine to start and to run well at high RPM. HCCI – think of how a diesel engine works, no spark plugs, and fuel is ignited by compression. One possibility for this engine to get up and running quickly would be to have spark plugs but only use them when starting and at high rpm loads. This I believe will be the future and probably the finale of the ICE.

Why didn't I think of this? It makes perfect sense. For how many years have loggers floated logs down rivers as a means of transportation? It makes sense that some of them would get water logged (pun intended) and sink. This dude is getting huge bucks for this prime old growth timber without cutting down any trees, or disturbing owls. Because of the cold temperature and lack of oxygen there is little if any degradation.

This is cool, be careful though, you can get dizzy. It is like being inside the picture, you can turn left or right, look up or down. You feel like you are in the picture. You have to check this out! And if you hold your mouse just right, the picture spins, around and around. Hence the earlier dizzy comment. I checked out “The Birds of Trafalgar Square” and “The Prophets Mosque”.

I ran across this website today and I think it is a great cause. They stop plants from being waste, and they help disabled people earn money. Plus you get plants at a great price.

I did some checking at a major online nursery 2 of the trees I was looking at (same tree, same size) was $22.95 at the major nursery and $6.95 at Freetreesandplans.com . A schrub I was looking at was $26.95 at another major online nursery and only $6.95 at freetreesandplants.com.

I can’t speak for their quality as I have not ordered from them but from what I can find they are dealing in good quality plants, just like you would get from any other online nursery.

Checked with the Better Business Bureau and no complaints on file.

Do an email Time Capsule! Usually with a Time Capsule you put some stuff in a jar or metal box and bury it in the back yard. Now you can do an email Time Capsule. I think this would be great for kids. Set it up for one year, five years, 10 years, heck even 20 years. When you bury the box in the back yard the catch is you have to remember where it is. With the email version you have to be sure you have the same email address when the time comes. Another thing….you only have until November 30th, 2005 to send the email in. Not much time!

If you want to do it later I am sure there will be a company somewhere to do it. There is one currently at:

Hi-Tech parking meters increase revenue.
Those parking meters where you insert a coin and twist a knob are going away. Now you can pay by cell phone. Did you used to drive around looking for a meter with time left? Say good-bye to that idea too. New meters realize when cars pull away and automatically reset. The new meters are also capable of variable rates. It might be $1 an hour for each of the first two hours and $2 each hour for the next two, and so on.
They can also inform law enforcement that your time has expired so they can get there and write you a ticket pronto. Isn’t technology wonderful?

The LF-SH concept is Lexus's next flagship sedan, and it is a worthy answer to the S-Class while remaining true to its Japanese roots. The rear-wheel-drive concept sports a gas-electric hybrid V8 with a combined 600hp, and the company promises that the production version will as well.

22 Mercedes Benz F 600 Hygenius conceptMercedes is adamant that the F 600 is not a concept car but rather a research vehicle: This fuel-cell hybrid actually runs. Featuring a dehumidifier that keeps the fuel cell from icing up in subzero weather and an electronic turbocharger that gets more air into the fuel-cell stack, the Hygenius boasts 115 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. It can travel up to 250 miles on a tank of hydrogen. The F 600 can run off its fuel cell, its lithium-ion battery or a combination of the two. The cup holders are also fuel-cell-powered; they draw energy from the hydrogen stack to heat or cool your beverage.

21 Daihatsu UFE-III conceptUFE stands for "Ultra Fuel Economy," and this car delivers the name's promise. The UFE-III returns more than 170 miles per gallon thanks to a 0.168 coefficient of drag-the lowest in the world-and a hybrid power train comprising a three-cylinder direct-injection engine and two electric motors. Its clamshell-opening roof is pretty cool too.

18 Volkswagen EcoRacer conceptVolkswagen's intention with this concept was to create a no-compromise sports car that is gentle on the environment. To keep weight down and stiffness up, VW developed a new carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic that is employed in both the body panels and frame. The mid-mounted four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine is a lightweight 1.5-liter model that produces 134 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. This power plant, paired with VW's renowned DSG dual-clutch transmission, propels the rear-wheel-drive EcoRacer to 62 mph in 6.3 seconds and a top speed of 144 mph. Oh yeah; it can get up to 78.9 miles per gallon.

17 Mitsubishi Concept XMore than a concept car, the Concept X is a prototype for the next generation of Mitsubishi's storied Lancer Evolution. The styling speaks for itself-evocative of the past while definitely grown-up-but Mitsubishi did the talking with some uncharacteristically specific details about what will propel the next Evo. Like its forbears, the Concept X gets its motivation from a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, but it features a sequential manual gearbox for quicker shifts and a new computerized 4WD system that integrates advanced braking, steering and suspension systems.

9 Honda WOW conceptDogs across the globe have been barking for years for a canine-oriented car-or at least that's what Honda seems to think. The WOW concept features a pee-resistant wood floor (well, it stands up better than carpet), a glove box small-dog holder, and a crate that pops up from under the second-row seats to accommodate a more substantial Rover.

6 Honda FCX conceptHonda switched to a vertically-oriented fuel-cell stack (which means that the hydrogen-generation process progresses from the top down) and refined the system to make it 40 percent smaller than its previous generation. Because of the significant amount of space they require, fuel cells are generally located under a vehicle's floor; Honda's small, vertical configuration allows the stack to reside in the center of the car, taking up about the same amount of space as a transmission tunnel in a conventional vehicle. The result is a more spacious interior and a low-slung stance that sharply contrasts with the mini-SUV look of most fuel-cell vehicles.

4 & 5 Mazda Senku conceptPossibly a design study for the next RX-8, the Senku is, like Mazda's flagship, a four-seat sports car. And in the company's tradition of weird doors, it features a minivan-esque sliding side door to give rear passengers easy access. The compact dimensions of the Senku's direct-injection rotary hybrid power plant allowed its designers to bump up interior space.

2 Yamaha Deinonychus conceptTaking advantage of two in-wheel motors to free up space around this electric motorcycle's frame, Yamaha installed a pair of electro hydraulic pistons that work in concert with extendable front forks to allow this bike to change its shape based on application. Fully extended, the pistons lengthen the chassis for cruising; when compressed; the pistons pull the wheels closer together and increase ground clearance for off-road tomfoolery. The two rocket-booster-looking canisters on the back are batteries, and the Deinonychus is designed to accommodate up to four of them depending on whether the rider would rather skim weight or ride for longer.

1 Yamaha Gen-Ryu conceptEqual parts bike, torpedo and art deco rocking horse, the Gen-Ryu features a 600cc inline four-cylinder gas engine paired with a high-output electric motor to equal the performance of a 1,000cc machine. The rigid aluminum body and long wheelbase are designed to enhance handling. A host of safety features, such as a rear-mounted CCD camera and LCD screen and a cornering light system, boost the rider's safety.

25 Nissan Pivo conceptThe Pivo was built as a showcase for Nissan's new electric-car technologies. With a drive-by-wire system that requires no mechanical connection between the driver inputs and drive system, its spherical cabin is able to rotate 360 degrees. The Pivo's compact, powerful motor and high-capacity lithium-ion battery will probably find their way into Nissan's future electric- and hybrid-car endeavors.

24 Toyota Fine-X conceptToyota's second-generation fuel-cell vehicle, like the Mercedes Benz F 600 Hygenius, is a fuel-cell hybrid, able to run off its battery, fuel cell or a combination of the two. Unlike the Hygenius, however, the Fine-X features four independent wheel motors and four-wheel steering. And even though Jabba the Hutt could easily roll in through its cavernous gull-wing door, the driver's seat swings out for easy entry and egress.

I really like this car, call me crazy but I like it. I like the small size, and the high-ness of it. Hopefully it is stable, not that it matters as I doubt we would ever see it in the US. Although, the more I look at it, the more it looks like a chop job. A small Mini body mounted on a Subaru chassis kind of thing. Kind of like when I was growing up there was always someone who took a car body like say a Monte Carlo and stuck it on a Chevy 4x4 truck chassis. This looks like the same kind of thing only it is modern and done professionally. I still like it though.

The U.S. Senate has set an April 7th , 2009 deadline for television stations to switch entirely to digital broadcasts. Among other things this means that unless your T.V.s are Digital they won’t work once the switch happens. There will be converter boxes that will adapt your old sets. But unless you have a digital tv or the $50 (est) converter box, no more watching TV. It is possible they will dual broadcast or something else may be worked out, who knows.
